Southern Nevada Health District workers staged a protest in Las Vegas on Thursday to advocate for higher pay and better benefits. These frontline workers, who are union-represented and facing staffing shortages, are struggling to make ends meet due to rising inflation. They are finding it difficult to keep and recruit new employees due to a wage gap.

Despite their dedication and hard work, many of the protestors feel undervalued and undercompensated for their efforts. Some workers have even considered taking on second jobs just to cover expenses, as they find the cost of healthcare benefits to be too high. Many have worked through the challenging conditions of the pandemic, with some putting their own health at risk to provide essential services.

When reached for comment on the protest, the Southern Nevada Health District stated that they are committed to working with staff to reach a fair and equitable agreement. The workers hope that their voices will be heard and that positive changes will be made to improve their working conditions.
