The light-heavyweight bronze medallist at the World Championships, Gazimagomed Jalidov, has advanced one step closer to his second Olympic Games appearance after winning all five judges’ cards with a score of 30-26 against his Estonian opponent at the 2024 Boxing 2nd World Qualification Tournament in Bangkok. In the men’s 80kg weight category, Jalidov dominated the fight and now needs three more wins to secure one of the final three Paris 2024 quota spots in the light-heavyweight class. Meanwhile, Amy Broadhurst, the 2022 world and Commonwealth Games champion, began her campaign in the women’s 60kg division with a unanimous 5-0 win over Spain’s Sheila Martínez.

Broadhurst won the world title for Ireland but is now representing Great Britain in the qualifier after her home federation decided not to select her. Another notable win came from Sweden’s Agnes Alexiusson, who competed in the event at Tokyo 2020 and stopped her Kiribati opponent Teretia Toauriri in the first round with just over one minute left on the clock. It is important to note that athletes must be selected by their National Olympic Committees to represent their respective teams in order to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics. As athletes continue to compete in the qualification tournament, anticipation for this upcoming Olympic Games continues to build.
