The time with the Warriors appears to be over for Klay Thompson, as reports indicate that the team is preparing for his departure. Despite rumors circulating for months, the news became more official on Saturday when the Athletic reported that both Thompson and the team believe his tenure in the Bay Area is coming to an end.

During the past two weeks, when the Warriors had an exclusive window to negotiate Thompson’s return, there has been little to no communication between the two parties. As Thompson prepares to enter free agency for the first time in his 13-year career on Sunday, several teams are emerging as strong suitors for the All-Star’s talents.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Dallas Mavericks are among the teams reportedly interested in Thompson. All three teams are looking to contend next season and could benefit from Thompson’s elite 3-point shooting abilities. Additionally, other teams with salary cap space are expected to show interest in signing Thompson.

The Lakers and Mavericks are both able to offer Thompson the $12.9 million midlevel exception, with LeBron James possibly willing to take a pay cut to help bring Thompson to Los Angeles. The Warriors are also reportedly open to facilitating a sign-and-trade deal to allow Thompson to move on to a new team.
