Martin Kaymer returned to Pinehurst for the first time since winning the 2014 U.S. Open, a tournament that brought him both good memories and some confusion. Despite feeling like he had just left yesterday, the German golfer struggled on the first few holes and was surprised at the difficulty of the course. In 2014, Kaymer breezed through the tournament with an eight-stroke victory, but the current firm and fast conditions of the No. 2 course have made it a tough challenge for many players.

Kaymer noticed that the course was tight around the greens, and that it was much easier to play back then compared to now. He acknowledged that the ball bounces more around the greens, making it harder to execute shots. Despite the differences, Kaymer sees the current set up as a good challenge for this week’s tournament.
