German drama series I Am Scrooge has been sold to various countries ahead of its world premiere at Seriencamp in Cologne this week. The show, produced by Zeitsprung Pictures, will debut on RTL+ in Germany later this year and premiere at Seriencamp on June 5.

I Am Scrooge is set in West Berlin in 1988 and follows the story of Arno Funke, also known as ‘Scrooge McDuck’, who becomes involved in an extortion case. Funke, a struggling artist, builds bombs in his kitchen and detonates them in department stores to extort money. As the case gains attention, detectives try to catch him as he continues to elude police under his ‘Scrooge’ persona.

The real-life Funke, dubbed ‘The DuckTales Bandit’ by The New Yorker, will attend the premiere alongside lead actors Friedrich Mücke and Sonja Gerhardt. The series is directed by Hannu Salonen and also stars Mišel Matičević and Moritz Führmann. Producers include Dominik Frankowski, Michael Souvignier, and Till Derenbach, with international distribution handled by Beta Film.

Seriencamp this week will feature the premiere of I Am Scrooge as a highlight, with panels moderated by Deadline including discussions with ZDF Studios, creators of Apple TV+’s Constellation, and Annette Hess, the screenwriter behind the Ku’Damm series. Hess will also receive the festival’s first Deadline Disruptor Award for her contributions to the German TV and film industry.
