From Runways to Restaurants: Sioux Falls Airport’s Major Expansion and Historic Downtown Building Renovation

A major expansion is currently underway at the Sioux Falls regional airport, which includes plans for a new addition to the concourse that will bring in at least five or six more gates. This expansion aims to help the airport manage its current flights and potentially attract new ones, including international flights if a sixth gate can fit the budget. Funding is still needed for the project, with hopes of a combination of federal and state funds and revenue bonds.

Meanwhile, the parking ramp project at the airport is set to open in September, and passenger travel is trending above last year’s record year. In addition, a historic downtown building on West 10th Street, formerly home to Club David, is receiving a major facelift. The building’s new owners, behind Parker’s and Icon Lounge, are committed to historic preservation and have already made progress on the exterior by adding windows for a more storefront look.

The interior of the building will undergo a complete renovation, with plans to offer the main floor for special events and expand food options on the upper floors and deck. The new menu will be different from their other downtown restaurants. The building will remain open during construction, with a goal of completion by the end of the year.
