In the offseason, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh stated that the team was considering whether Malik Cunningham would play as a quarterback or wide receiver this season. With the recent absence of wideouts Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and Nelson Agholor during Thursday’s OTA practice, Cunningham received extra reps. As reported by Ryan Mink of the team’s website, Cunningham is now officially listed as a wide receiver.

Cunningham showed promise as a quarterback for the Patriots in the preseason last year, but only played in one regular season game before being signed by the Ravens off New England’s practice squad. He saw limited action in the regular season finale, not recording any stats on his four snaps. The Ravens currently have quarterbacks Lamar Jackson, Josh Johnson, Devin Leary, and Emory Jones on their roster. With the quarterback position already filled with talented players, Cunningham may have a better opportunity to make an impact as a wideout with the Ravens this season.

As he transitions to his new role as a wide receiver with the Ravens this season, it will be interesting to see how Cunningham utilizes his speed and athleticism on the field. The team will likely work on developing his skills at the position and finding ways to utilize his unique abilities to make an impact in their offense. As the season progresses, Cunningham’s versatility could prove to be a valuable asset for the Ravens’ offense.
