Blackhawks fans have been named the most aggressive in the NHL, according to a new study conducted by casinos.org. The survey included 3,000 NHL fans across the United States and Canada, and asked about their sportsmanship behaviors, including frequency of booing, cheering for injuries on the opposing team, trash-talking on social media platforms, lack of empathy for the opposing team’s loss, and being unapologetic for past poor behaviors. The results were synthesized into an “ice cold” index.

Blackhawks fans scored the highest on this index with a 96.9 out of 100. Avalanche fans came in second with a score of 94.0, while the Ottawa Senators were ranked as the “warmest” home crowd, scoring just 5.5 on the index. The high score for Blackhawks fans can be attributed to several factors: 22.2% reported having fought with fans of the opposing team (the highest percentage in the NHL), and 46% said they did not regret their past unsportsmanlike behavior.

The group weighted their index based on various factors, including physical fights, cheering for injuries, engaging in poor behaviors, lack of regret for poor behaviors, lack of empathy for the opposing team’s loss, high booing frequency
