In the early hours of Friday morning, NBA free agent guard Cameron Payne was taken into custody in Scottsdale, Arizona for allegedly providing false information to police and refusing to disclose his identity. The news of Payne’s arrest was first reported by TMZ Sports.
According to the Scottsdale Police Department, a disturbance call was received at around 2:44 a.m., and officers arrived on the scene to find Payne along with another individual. Although details about the disturbance were not released, Payne was ultimately arrested and taken to Scottsdale City Jail. He was later released after a short period of time in custody.
Throughout his professional basketball career, the 29-year-old Payne has played for various NBA teams, including the Phoenix Suns, Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Philadelphia 76ers. Payne was selected as the 14th overall pick by the Thunder in the 2015 NBA Draft after playing college basketball at Murray State.
Recently, Payne was traded from the Bucks to the Sixers along with a second-round draft pick as part of a deal involving Patrick Beverley. He contributed an average of 9.3 points and 3.1 assists per game with a 38% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc during his time with the Sixers in the regular season.
