For over thirty years, Tommy Masters of Fresno has been teaching golf. He excelled as a junior golfer in Virginia and made the decision to turn pro instead of going to college. Despite not having the success he hoped for on the mini-tours, Masters found a new passion for the game in his late twenties and started teaching.

After competing in the Canadian and Nike tours in the early ’90s, Masters moved to Fresno to continue teaching golf. He has always had a desire to play on the big stage, and has attempted to qualify for the US Senior Open through local qualifiers for years.

Two years ago, Masters hit a low point when he quit in the middle of his qualifier with his son as his caddy. After taking a break, he decided to give it another shot and this time he not only qualified for the US Senior Open, but also took home medalist honors with a score of 69.

It was an emotional moment for Masters, who sees this achievement as a gift in his life. He is now preparing to compete in his first open in Newport, Rhode Island, with his son by his side. After years of dedication to the game, Masters is finally getting something back in return.
