Olympic silver medallist Carlo Paalam has progressed to the quarter-finals of the 2024 Boxing 2nd World Qualification Tournament after defeating Armenia’s Artur Bazeyan in a tough match in Bangkok, Thailand. Despite having to withdraw from the 1st World Qualifier due to a shoulder injury, Paalam displayed his skills and experience in securing a split decision win in the 57kg category.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Weerapon Jongjoho also advanced to the next round with a dominant victory in the 80kg division. French athlete Samuel Kistohurry, who won bronze at the 2021 world championships and competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, secured a unanimous decision win in the same category against Hyung-Seung Kim from South Korea.
In addition, Aryan Saed Panah, an IOC refugee scholar from Iran, took a step closer to his dream of winning an Olympic medal with a commanding victory over Colombia’s Marlos Andres Hurtado in the 92kg category. It is important to note that athletes’ participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics is subject to their National Olympic Committees selecting them to represent their respective teams.
