In the Negev region, a call was received in the middle of the night by the MDA team regarding a baby who had been injured. The team quickly responded and arrived at the scene to find the baby in minor condition. The baby was then taken to Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva for treatment. As part of the investigation, inspectors from the Nature and Parks Authority were dispatched to search for the jackal responsible for the incident.
It is important to be aware that jackals, foxes, and stray dogs can contract rabies, a viral disease that can be fatal shortly after infection. Rabies is usually transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, typically through a bite, but can also occur through licking a wound or scratch. Symptoms of rabies include fever, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting, progressing to confusion, hallucinations, convulsions, paralysis, and eventually death.
In case of an animal bite, it is crucial to take immediate action by cleaning the wound thoroughly with soap and water. Disinfecting the area if possible is also recommended. Seeking medical attention promptly is essential as well. Additionally, individuals should ensure they are up-to-date on tetanus vaccinations since this can also be a concern with animal bites.
By following these guidelines and taking swift action when necessary can help prevent the spread of rabies and minimize potential risks associated with animal bites.
