The Detroit High School Sports Awards, presented by Detroit Area Honda Dealers and in partnership with the U.S. Army, is a nine-month student-athlete recognition program that celebrates athletes, coaches, and teams from the greater Detroit region who compete in sanctioned Michigan High School Athletic Association sports. The event will take place on June 18 at The Fillmore Detroit, and tickets are now available.

As a featured speaker at this prestigious event, Donovan Peoples-Jones will share his inspiring journey from high school star to NFL player. A native of Detroit, Peoples-Jones played football at every level in Michigan, starting with his days at Cass Tech High School where he was a highly touted five-star recruit and named the state’s best wide receiver since 2000. As a senior, he was honored as the Michigan High School Football Player of the Year.

Upon graduation from high school, Peoples-Jones joined the University of Michigan football team and quickly made an impact, earning recognition as a freshman All-American and the team’s Rookie of the Year. Throughout his Michigan career, he received multiple All Big-Ten selections as both a wide receiver and punt returner. In 2020, Peoples-Jones was selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns and spent three productive seasons with the team before being traded to the Lions in October 2023. In March 2024, he signed a new deal with the team.

Peoples-Jones’ incredible journey from high school star to NFL player is sure to inspire young athletes at this event. His story serves as proof that hard work and determination can lead to great success on and off the field.
