George Frandsen, the owner of an extensive collection of fossilized feces, is now showcasing his treasures at his new museum in Arizona. In 2015, Frandsen earned the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest collection of coprolites, with over 1,277 fossils belonging to ancient animals. His passion for these prehistoric “time capsules” led him to expand his collection to over 8,000 pieces and turn it into a virtual exhibit that has toured various museums across the country.
During his travels, Frandsen noticed a lack of representation for coprolites in mainstream sources and exhibits. This inspired him to open a permanent location for his Poozeum in Williams, Arizona. The museum is billed as “the world’s premier dinosaur poop museum and gift shop,” offering free admission to all visitors. Frandsen generates revenue primarily through the dinosaur-themed gift shop to ensure that access to knowledge and discovery remains unrestricted.
Frandsen left his job at a healthcare company earlier this year and relocated with his family from Florida to pursue his dream of opening the Poozeum. His fascination with fossilized feces began when he was just 18 years old and stumbled upon them while shopping at a Utah rock store. He found them both hilarious and fascinating, sparking his curiosity and leading him on a lifelong journey of learning about coprolites and their significance in understanding the diets, behaviors, and environments of ancient creatures.
The Poozeum offers visitors an opportunity to see these fascinating specimens up close and learn about their history through interactive exhibits and expert commentary from Frandsen himself. With its unique blend of education and humor, the Poozeum is sure to be a hit among visitors of all ages.
