The Brazilian government has condemned all acts of violence against women and expressed solidarity with Maressa Crísley Nunes dos Santos, who is currently hospitalized in serious condition after being the victim of an assault and attempted rape in Santiago. According to reports, Maressa and her friend were attacked by a robber who pretended to be a delivery man to gain access to their apartment.

The situation escalated when the attacker called other men to the scene and recorded images of the attacks. Maressa was able to take one of the attackers’ guns, but she suffered injuries during the incident. The violence intensified after Maressa managed to take control of the gun, leading to further harm.

Despite this unfortunate incident, efforts are being made globally to combat gender-based violence. In fact, Chile held a demonstration in support of its Comprehensive Law to Combat Violence Against Women just a few weeks ago during its enactment in Santiago. The photo captured at that event highlights ongoing efforts to address and combat gender-based violence.

Maressa’s family has launched a fundraising campaign on Vakinha website to cover the expenses associated with her hospitalization, surgeries, and recovery. While they have already raised significant funds, they continue working towards meeting their goal as they keep their loved one in their prayers for speedy recovery. The Brazilian Consulate General in Santiago has been maintaining contact with Maressa’s family throughout this ordeal.

The Brazilian government’s condemnation of all acts of violence against women serves as a reminder that there is still much work to be done globally in addressing this issue head-on. It is crucial that we continue our efforts towards ending gender-based violence once and for all.
