Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) has been thriving in Columbus for over 35 years. The school, established in 1987, is located on the campus of Mississippi University for Women (MUW). The administrations of both schools are dedicated to maintaining this relationship, which was highlighted during a recent Town and Tower Meeting at MUW.

The speakers at the event included Ginger Tedder, the Executive Director and an alum of the school, Emma Richardson, an original faculty member and author of a history of the school, and Dr. Thomas Easterling, the current Director of Academic Affairs. They emphasized the unique opportunities that MSMS students have and the strong bond the school shares with Columbus and MUW.

One of the biggest strengths of MSMS is its diversity and exposure to different cultures. Students leave MSMS with a broader understanding of the world and bring these perspectives into their education at MUW. Additionally, MSMS has benefited from a close relationship with the local community, evident in programs like ‘Tales From the Crypt’, ‘8 of May’ program, and various educational outreach initiatives.

The mission of Town and Tower is to foster relationships between MUW, Columbus, Lowndes County, and Columbus Air Force Base. By strengthening these ties between MSMS and the local community
