Smoking Kow BBQ, located at 3250 Duke Street, has recently experienced a surge in popularity and sales after being recognized as #79 in Yelp’s Top 100 barbecue joints in the country. Owner Diane Lee shared that the restaurant and catering operation have been busier than usual, with record-breaking sales on multiple days recently. Since taking over the business last year, Lee has focused on simplifying the menu and perfecting the art of sliced brisket to ensure quality over quantity.

The team at Smoking Kow BBQ has had to make adjustments to meet the high demand for their delicious barbecue. They now begin cooking at 3:30 a.m. to double their food production and avoid selling out too early. Lee has also expanded their catering services by adding tents to accommodate more events when the food truck is booked. The restaurant is currently hiring cashiers and offering competitive hourly pay rates between $18-$20.

Lee has big plans for the future of Smoking Kow BBQ. She has signed a letter of intent to open another restaurant at National Landing in Crystal City and is exploring the idea of expanding to Vienna in Fairfax County. Lee believes that Vienna shares a similar tight-knit community vibe to Old Town, making it an attractive location for another outpost of her popular BBQ joint.

Despite facing challenges with selling out of food by 5 p.m., Smoking Kow BBQ has been able to adapt and meet the high demand for their mouthwatering barbecue. With their focus on quality and their ability to innovate, Smoking Kow BBQ is poised for continued success in the years ahead.
