Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has announced his departure from the club after nine seasons. The Frenchman, who joined United in 2015 for £36m, never quite reached the expectations set for him as the most expensive teenager in the world. In his time at the club, Martial scored 90 goals in 317 appearances but made his last appearance in a 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth in December.

After undergoing groin surgery in January, Martial returned to training but did not make another first-team squad. His contract with the club expires this summer. In a statement posted on social media, Martial expressed his gratitude for his time at Manchester United. He thanked the supporters and reflected on the honor of wearing the club’s shirt for nine incredible years. Despite his departure, Martial shared that Manchester United would always hold a special place in his heart.

Throughout his time at United, Martial won the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, and Europa League and also had a loan spell with Sevilla. His last appearance for France was in 2021. Fellow Manchester United players, including Marcus Rashford, wished Martial well in his future endeavors. Rashford also announced his intention to take a break from social media to reset mentally after a challenging season. Despite missing out on England’s provisional squad for Euro 2024, Rashford expressed his appreciation for the fans who supported him during difficult times, emphasizing the importance of sticking together as part of the Manchester United family.

Martial’s departure marks an end of an era at Manchester United as he becomes one of several high-profile players leaving the club ahead of next season. However, it is clear that both he and Rashford will always cherish their time at Old Trafford and hold it close to their hearts as they move on to new challenges elsewhere
