The “Proud France” party representative, Sebastien Delogo, made a bold move during a question to the government about the situation in Gaza Strip. He raised a Palestinian flag in the National Assembly on Tuesday, leading to the suspension of the session and his exclusion for 15 days. Yael Bron-Pevih, president of the association and representative of the presidential camp, condemned Delogo’s behavior as “unacceptable,” announced a meeting to study his case and exclusion from the council as per regulations that stipulate penalties for disrupting order or provoking unrest.
When questioned by the press, Delogo stated that his action was a personal initiative. The incident coincided with Spain, Ireland, and Norway recognizing the State of Palestine. During the session, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal was asked about France’s position on the issue but did not provide a clear answer. Cyril Chatelain, leader of Green Party directly asked if French government would recognize Palestinian state to which no response was given.
The “Proud France” party had made addressing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza their central campaign issue during European elections. Delogo’s actions in assembly underscored this stance but resulted in his exclusion from council. This incident highlights complexity of international politics and challenges of addressing conflicts such as those in Middle East
