Jyväskylä, Finland and energy company Fortum have signed a letter of intent to build a data center complex on a 20-hectare area in Seppälänkanka. The agreement states that Fortum will develop and promote the area to potential data center operators who will be responsible for making investments. This project is expected to create job opportunities for around 150-200 people, as reported by the city of Jyväskylä.

One of the key reasons for choosing Jyväskylä for this project is the availability of skilled workforce due to the presence of universities in the area. Additionally, the city has a reliable electricity grid and an existing district heating network, demonstrating its commitment to increasing carbon-neutral energy production. Vesa Maso, Business Director at Fortum, highlighted these factors in an announcement, emphasizing the attractiveness of Jyväskylä as a location for the data center complex.

Fortum has experience in developing similar projects in Espoo and Kirkkonummi, such as the Espoo Clean Heat project in collaboration with Microsoft. By expanding their initiatives to Jyväskylä, Fortum is aiming to contribute to the growth of the data center industry and create economic opportunities in the region.
