In 2024, Fort Collins saw a slight decrease in its ranking on U.S. News & World Report’s Best Places to Live list, dropping from 23rd in 2023 to 39th. Despite this, the city remains in the top 50 thanks to its strong points such as its craft brewing industry, outdoor activities, vibrant arts and entertainment scene, sunny days, and being home to Colorado State University. However, the report also pointed out areas for improvement including housing costs and taxes. The median home cost in Fort Collins was $477,475 which is higher than the national average. Additionally, additional sales taxes in the city and county raised the total tax rate. The state income tax was also noted as a drawback for residents. On a positive note, Colorado received recognition in the report with two cities in the top 10 and four in the top 40. Colorado Springs was ranked the 9th best city to live in while Boulder came in at 4th place.
