Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has announced that he will be leaving Mercedes in 2025 to join Ferrari. The news came after an anonymous email was sent to Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff and other senior figures in Formula 1, alleging that Hamilton’s car was being sabotaged by the team due to his decision to switch teams.

Wolff reported the email to the police, who determined that no criminal offenses were committed by the sender. The police advised Mercedes on how to handle any future emails they may receive. Despite this, Wolff dismissed the claims in the letter as “mad” and emphasized that he and Hamilton are focused on ending their relationship positively.

Although Wolff does not believe the letter was sent by a Mercedes employee, the team has not been able to identify its origin. At a recent press conference, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur denied the allegations made in the letter as “completely irrational.” Vasseur emphasized that there is intense competition in Formula 1 and no team would risk sabotaging a car for any reason. He also acknowledged the dedication of each team to secure as many points as possible and stressed that intentionally damaging or sabotaging a car goes against the core principles of Formula 1.
