Formula 1 driver Yuki Tsunoda faced a fine of 40,000 euros (£33,900) during a recent press conference. This came after he made an offensive comment about a rival during qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix. The 24-year-old RB driver used inappropriate language towards Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu over the team radio, resulting in him being summoned before race stewards.

During the hearing, Tsunoda explained that he felt obstructed in the pit lane and used words that were unintentional and offensive. He expressed shock and regret upon discovering the true meaning of his words. However, despite his apology and explanation, the stewards emphasized that his words were unacceptable and not in line with Formula 1’s code of conduct.

The FIA, Formula 1’s governing body, stated that Tsunoda showed genuine remorse during the hearing and offered to issue a public apology. As a result, half of his fine was suspended until the end of the season. Currently ranked 10th in the drivers’ standings, Tsunoda will begin Sunday’s race from the 14th position.
