Goalkeeper Andy Firth has left Cymru Premier side Connah’s Quay Nomads to take up a coaching role at Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq. The 27-year-old, who played 32 times for Nomads last season and helped them lift the Welsh Cup, will work as an assistant goalkeeping coach under his former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.

Former Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg will be named as Al-Ettifaq’s head goalkeeping coach. In a social media post, Firth expressed his gratitude to Nomads for the past two years, highlighting the Welsh Cup win as a special achievement. He praised the team’s manager Neil Gibson and staff, as well as the camaraderie among players and the hard work of volunteers behind the scenes.

Firth began his career in Liverpool’s academy before playing for Barrow before signing for Rangers in 2019. Although he had limited playing time at Ibrox, he made a significant impact during his time at Nomads after joining the club in July 2022. Firth’s new role at Al-Ettifaq marks an exciting chapter in his career, where he will continue to work alongside experienced coaches and contribute to the development of goalkeepers at the club.
