Craig Monroe, a television analyst for the Detroit Tigers, is being investigated by the Charlotte County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office following allegations of sexual abuse made by a woman on social media. The woman claims that Monroe abused her when she was a 12-year-old child dating back to his days as a minor-league player.

Monroe lived with the woman’s family during his time in the minors, which is a common practice for players in the lower levels of the league. The abuse allegedly began during this time. The woman, now 35, originally made the allegations on social media before deleting them and then reposting them recently. She also spoke with WJBK-TV, sharing disturbing details about the alleged abuse.

On June 9, Monroe appeared on a Tigers broadcast but has not been seen since then due to an investigation into these allegations. Bally Sports Detroit sent him home on June 11 after learning about the accusations. A joint statement from both the Tigers and Bally Sports Detroit stated that they take these allegations seriously and that Monroe will not be appearing on any broadcasts indefinitely.

Through his attorney, Monroe has denied these allegations and plans to cooperate with law enforcement. He played in the majors from 2001-09 with multiple organizations including the Tigers, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins.
