A 50-year-old former Israeli football player, Liron Basis, has been arrested in Moscow for 40 more days. He was once a famous player in Israel and had come to Russia from Georgia at the request of Germany. The charges against Basis include fraud amounting to 26 million euros, according to the Mash Telegram channel. Despite his protests of innocence in court, Basis claims that he was part of a criminal group involved in 33 episodes of fraud.
In addition to the fraud allegations, Basis also complained about the lack of kosher food in the pre-trial detention center where he was being held. He stated that he was forced to eat only black bread and drink tea.
Despite his arrest in Moscow, Basis is still facing serious charges related to fraud in Germany. It remains to be seen what will happen next for this former football star as he awaits trial and possible conviction on these serious charges.
