Jonathan Axelrod, a renowned studio and network executive, television producer, and writer, passed away on June 13 in Los Angeles at the age of 74. His ex-wife, television director Katy Garretson, confirmed his death.

Born in New York City, Axelrod moved to Beverly Hills when he was nine years old. His father, George Axelrod, was nominated for an Oscar for his screenplay for the movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” From an early age, Axelrod had a passion for film and met director John Frankenheimer on the set of his father’s film “The Manchurian Candidate.” The two eventually formed a partnership to produce TV movies such as “Against the Wall.” In his later years, Axelrod produced more than two dozen movies for the Hallmark Channel.

Axelrod was also successful in the talent agency business and served as president of Camden Artists. He held leadership positions at New World Pictures and Columbia Pictures Television throughout his career. Along with actor-director Jamie Widdoes, Axelrod produced many projects under Axelrod/Widdoes Entertainment. He also collaborated with writer-executive Kelly Edwards under Axelrod/Edwards.

Axelrod was previously married to Garretson, actors Illeana Douglas and Shelley Smith. He is survived by his son Samuel. A private memorial service will be held in New York where his extended family resides.
