In a surprising turn of events, former French president Francois Hollande has announced his intention to make a political comeback. The socialist politician will run as a candidate in the parliamentary elections in the Corrèze department.

Hollande served as France’s president from 2012 to 2017, but decided not to seek re-election due to his unpopularity according to polls during his time in office. Despite this, he now appears eager to return to the political arena.

The Parti Socialiste, the political party to which Hollande belongs, has responded cautiously to his decision to stand for parliament. An important party official simply stated that they have taken note of his intention without providing further comment.

The upcoming parliamentary elections in France are scheduled for June 30 and July 7. President Emmanuel Macron called for the elections following a strong showing by Marine Le Pen’s right-wing nationalist RN party in the recent European elections. The RN is also leading in the polls for the parliamentary elections.

Hollande has voiced his support for a new alliance of left-wing parties in order to prevent the far right from gaining power. It remains uncertain whether Hollande will succeed in securing a seat in parliament, as the outcome of the elections will determine his political future.
