Over the weekend, two former California men’s rowers, Olav Molenaar (’22) and Joachim Sutton (’19), earned medals at the World Rowing Cup I in Varese, Italy. Molenaar helped the Netherlands win the silver medal in the men’s eight, while Sutton helped Denmark secure the bronze in the men’s pair.

Current rowers Frederik Breuer, Gennaro di Mauro, and Tim Roth also participated in the event. In the men’s four heat race, Breuer finished second behind Germany, just one second away from qualifying for the A final. However, he ended up finishing fourth in the A final. Di Mauro came in second in his heat of the men’s single sculls but missed out on qualifying for the A/B final by less than one second. He won his C final with a time of 7:00.26.

On Sunday, Roth competed for Switzerland in the men’s four and won his opening heat to advance to the A final. In
