Forest Green Rovers have announced the signing of experienced duo Liam Sercombe and Sean Long, who rejected new contract offers at Cheltenham Town and will become free agents. The pair brings a wealth of experience to the team as they look to build a strong squad that can work towards promotion back to the Football League.

Sercombe, a midfielder who has played 579 times in the English Football League for teams like Exeter City, Oxford United, and Bristol Rovers, scored 11 goals last season as Cheltenham were relegated from League One. Sean Long, a defender who captained Cheltenham Town last season, has made over 200 EFL appearances for the club.

Sercombe expressed his excitement about joining Forest Green Rovers, stating, “I had a really good four years at Cheltenham, but I feel like it’s the right time to turn down the contract offered and find a new challenge. It’s an ambitious club – now with Steve Cotterill in control and the career he’s had, I’m excited to learn from him. I feel this is the perfect fit for me. It excites me to try and get Forest Green back to the Football League. I’m as hungry as ever and I want to be in a winning side to get that promotion.”

With these signings, Forest Green Rovers are looking forward to building on their successes in recent seasons and working towards promotion back into higher leagues of football. The players bring valuable assets such as skill, experience, and leadership that will be crucial in achieving their goals.
