After a successful 9-year career in the NFL, veteran cornerback Steven Nelson has announced his retirement. According to a report by Aaron Wilson of KPRC, Nelson received interest from several teams including the Texans, Raiders, Giants, Rams, Commanders and Dolphins but ultimately decided to step away from football to spend more time with his pregnant wife and family while also focusing on his various business ventures.

Nelson, who is 31 years old, expressed pride in his accomplishments in football and the journey that led him to where he is today. Starting from a small town with limited resources, he worked hard to make it all the way to the NFL. Originally drafted by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Nelson played for four seasons in Kansas City before moving on to play for the Steelers and Eagles. In his final season with the Texans, he recorded a career-high five interceptions one of which was returned for an 82-yard touchdown in a wild-card playoff win against the Browns. Over his 130-game career with 115 starts, Nelson recorded 13 interceptions, 87 passes defended, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries among other notable achievements.

As he reflects on his decision to retire from football, Nelson emphasized his gratitude for all of the opportunities and challenges that shaped his career. Although he has officially retired from football, Nelson left open the possibility of a return at some point in the future as he transitions into this new chapter of his life.
