Rafael Nadal, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, has decided to skip Wimbledon this year in order to focus on the upcoming Olympics in Paris. The Spanish tennis player, who won singles gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and doubles gold in Rio in 2016, will be competing in a clay-court tournament in Bastad, Sweden as part of his preparation for the Olympic tennis tournament that will kick off on 27 July.

Although Nadal has had success at Wimbledon in the past, winning in 2008 and 2010, he has chosen to prioritize the Olympic games this year. The 38-year-old, who is a 22-time Grand Slam champion, expressed his disappointment at missing out on the prestigious Wimbledon event but emphasized that his main focus is now on the clay courts at Roland Garros.

Nadal, who suffered a first-round exit at the French Open last month, believes that continuing to play on clay will be the best option for his body as he prepares for the Olympics. He is currently ranked 264th in the world but will pair up with Carlos Alcaraz to compete in the doubles event at the Olympics.

While Nadal has hinted at the possibility of retirement later this year, he remains focused on his upcoming tournaments and has not confirmed whether the French Open was his final appearance at the prestigious event.
