The 2024 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships kicked off in Ostrava, Czechia on Friday. Two Flyers players, winger Joel Farabee for Team USA and goaltender Samuel Ersson for Team Sweden, are participating in the tournament.

On the opening day of the preliminary round, Team USA lost to Sweden with a final score of 5-2. Farabee played alongside Shane Pinto and Ryan Leonard and recorded four shots on target. Ersson served as the backup goaltender for Sweden.

The following day, Team USA bounced back with a 6-1 victory over Germany in Ostrava. Farabee logged over 14 minutes of ice time and recorded two shots on target. The team’s next match is against Slovakia before facing France, Poland, Kazakhstan, and Austria in the coming days.

Team Sweden had a rest day on Saturday but will face Poland next in their next matchup. Their upcoming schedule includes games against Germany, Kazakhstan, Latvia, France, and Slovakia. The other grouping in the preliminary round includes Canada, Finland, the host nation Czech squad, and Switzerland along with Norway, Denmark
