On Sunday, Virginia became the first team to be eliminated in the 2024 Men’s College World Series. Florida and NC State also fell victim to elimination on Monday in their first game from Omaha. Texas A&M and Kentucky will now face off in the nightcap.
The matchup between Florida and NC State was a close one, with Florida emerging victorious with a 5-4 win. Both teams had lost their first College World Series game, putting them at risk of elimination. However, Florida managed to stay alive in the tournament while NC State saw their journey come to an end.
Despite a challenging start on the mound, junior Jac Caglianone showed his prowess at the plate with a three-run home run in the second inning, giving Florida a 4-1 lead. With this homer, Caglianone tied Matt LaPorta for the most home runs in Florida baseball history, having hit 74 in total. Following his performance, Caglianone emphasized the importance of moving on from setbacks and focusing on the next challenge.
Florida will now await their next opponent, scheduled to play against the loser of the Texas A&M-Kentucky game on Wednesday.
