In a thrilling elimination game at the 2024 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, Florida State secured a hard-fought victory over Virginia with a final score of 7-3. The Seminoles’ impressive win saw them advance to face the loser of the Tennessee-North Carolina game on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Charles Schwab Stadium.

FSU’s starting pitcher, Carson Dorsey, delivered an outstanding performance on the mound, pitching into the eighth inning with seven strikeouts and 106 pitches. His impressive pitching helped FSU keep Virginia’s offense in check and allowed FSU to take a commanding lead over their opponents.

The Seminoles crowd was energized by Jaime Ferrer, who hit two home runs and four RBIs during the game. His three-run homer in the fifth inning contributed to a four-run inning that gave FSU a 6-0 lead. Alex Lodise also contributed to FSU’s offense with his leadoff home run in the sixth, which extended their lead to 7-0. Despite being out hit by Virginia 10-7, FSU emerged victorious, sending the Cavaliers home as the first team eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.

The seventh inning saw Virginia mount a brief rally with back-to-back singles by Ethan Anderson and Anthony Stephan, followed by RBI singles from Henry Godbout and Casey Saucke to cut the deficit to 7-2. However, FSU’s Henry Ford struck out to end the threat, and Virginia’s starting pitcher Jay Woolfolk sustained a knee injury after Ferrer’s first homer, prompting Joe Savino to relieve him.
