Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone made history at the US Olympic Trials by breaking the 400-meter hurdles world record for the fifth time. With a time of 50.65 seconds, she improved upon her own record set two years ago at Eugene’s Hayward Field. The 24-year-old secured a place on the US team for the upcoming Paris Olympics by finishing almost two seconds ahead of the second-place runner, Anna Cockrell.

The men’s event in the 400m hurdles also saw a trials record being set by Rai Benjamin, who clocked in at 46.46 seconds. He aims to improve upon his silver medal from the Tokyo Olympics and is joined on the US team by CJ Allen and Trevor Bassitt, who finished second and third, respectively, at the trials. The stage is set for an exciting competition in this event at the Paris Olympics, with top athletes from around the world ready to showcase their talent on the track.

Reflecting on her performance, McLaughlin-Levrone expressed a desire to continue pushing boundaries and improving her race times. She aims to break the 50-second barrier in the future and is constantly looking for ways to enhance her performance on the track. With seven of the 10 fastest times in history and four of her five world records set at Hayward Field, McLaughlin-Levrone continues to solidify her legacy in the sport. Femke Bol is expected to provide tough competition at the upcoming games while Jasmine Jones also qualified to represent US women’s team in this event
