Firefighters in the south suburban village of Dolton are raising concerns over where their retirement money, union dues, and health care benefits have gone. The International Association of Firefighters Local 3766 has filed a grievance after discovering that money deducted from their members’ checks for a retirement plan was not being sent where it should be.

According to Farej, the money that should have gone to Nationwide was not reaching them, leading some members to stop contributing altogether. This issue has been going on for more than six months, leaving many firefighters feeling frustrated and unsupported.

Documents obtained by NBC Chicago also reveal that premiums for health insurance had not been received, adding to the financial stress faced by firefighters in the village. Additionally, there has been no contract negotiation with the Dolton Fire Department Union for nearly five years.

Village Trustee Brittney Norwood has raised questions surrounding financial transparency for three years, while Farej adds that many of the 21 firefighters were afraid to speak out due to fear of retaliation. Despite this, they expressed their love for the place and urged upper administration to prioritize the well-being of both firefighters and residents.

The Village of Dolton issued a statement saying they are committed to resolving collective bargaining concerns with the Dolton Fire Department Union. They acknowledged the various issues raised and expressed determination to work towards addressing the challenges faced by the village and ensuring that bargaining members are made whole again.
