The Madison County Career Technical Center has recently announced a new Fire Science program in collaboration with the Alabama Fire College. This partnership will provide students with comprehensive training and education in fire science, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in firefighting.
The program is set to begin in the 2024-2025 school year and will enroll eight high school students. Courses will cover Volunteer Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness and Operations. By combining practical training exercises with classroom instruction, students will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, allowing for realistic simulations of firefighting scenarios.
Principal Michael Counts expressed excitement about the program, highlighting the hands-on learning experience it will offer. “We’re thrilled to be able to provide our students with this unique opportunity,” he said. “With this program, they’ll have access to some of the best facilities and equipment in the country, giving them a competitive edge when it comes to pursuing careers in firefighting.”
Upon completion of the program, students can apply for scholarships to attend the Alabama Fire College’s six-week bridge program. This bridge program provides an opportunity for students who have completed a two-year college degree or technical diploma program to earn a four-year bachelor’s degree in fire science or emergency medical services management.
