This prompted a response from the Columbia-Richland Fire Department (CRFD) and the Forest Acres Police Department (FAPD) around 9:45 p.m. The Heyward Center, which is a Richland County School District One building, offers high school students classes in various trades such as culinary skills and electronics.

Upon arrival at the scene, CRFD units worked to extinguish flames coming from the building’s roof, which had caused the building to fill with smoke. Fortunately, they were able to put out the fire without any injuries.
