A fire that broke out in the southern part of the island of Brač on Saturday is currently being put out by a team of 38 firefighters. The fire has been localized and brought under control, according to a report from the Brač firefighters in the afternoon. Despite burning more than five hectares of pine forest, the quick response of the firefighters with 12 vehicles prevented it from spreading further.
Nikola Martinić, commander of Brački firefighters, stated that two firefighters who initially left the scene after the fire was localized returned to help extinguish it. He mentioned that several cottages were near the flames but that the firefighters managed to prevent it from reaching them and no evacuations were necessary. Martinić believes that the fire will be completely extinguished by evening, although some firefighters will remain on site throughout the night.
