The first ever Women’s Club World Cup is set to take place in January-February 2026, with FIFA confirming that the tournament will be held every four years. This decision comes after FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced plans to introduce the competition as part of an initiative to boost the women’s game.

While details about the tournament are yet to be released, it is expected that top European teams from the UEFA Women’s Champions League will go up against clubs from the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States, as well as teams from countries where women’s football is still emerging. Barcelona, one of Europe’s strongest women’s teams, could be a major player in this competition.

In addition to the Women’s Club World Cup, FIFA has also approved a new calendar aimed at prioritizing players’ rest and recovery. According to FIFA President Infantino, these changes are designed to elevate the competitiveness of the women’s game on a global scale. The FIFA Council has also officially appointed Mattias Grafstrom as its Secretary General, following his interim nomination last year. Grafstrom expressed his excitement and sense of responsibility in taking on this new role, highlighting his lifelong passion for football and eagerness to contribute to its growth and development.
