At the Australian Olympic Trials, Ariarne Titmus and Mollie O’Callaghan had outstanding performances in the women’s 200m freestyle. O’Callaghan broke her own world record with a time of 1:52.48, while Titmus shattered the world record with a time of 1:52.23 seconds.

O’Callaghan, who trains alongside Titmus under coach Dean Boxall in Brisbane, has been a standout swimmer for Australia for several years now. She won silver at the 2023 World Championships and made her Olympic debut in Tokyo as a relay-only swimmer before winning gold and silver at the World Championships.

At the trials, O’Callaghan also excelled in the 100m backstroke, becoming the fourth-fastest woman in history in that event. The last Australian one-two finish in swimming at the Olympics was in 2004 by Ian Thorpa and Grant Hackett while for women it was in 1996 in the 200m butterfly.
