The ongoing conflict in Gaza is posing significant challenges for the World Food Programme (WFP) in delivering vital supplies to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the region. During an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Cindy McCain, executive director of WFP, highlighted this issue.
McCain emphasized the importance of unrestricted access to the region for WFP to effectively distribute aid. She expressed frustration with the inconsistent delivery of supplies, stating that while some trucks have been able to enter Gaza, it has not been happening at a consistent or sufficient scale.
According to a recent statement by WFP, only nine convoys have reached northern Gaza since the beginning of the year. McCain attributed these challenges to political barriers that are hindering WFP’s efforts to provide aid in a timely and effective manner.
