David G. Nanz has been appointed as the assistant director of the Operational Technology Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He has a wealth of experience in law enforcement and investigative work, having spent over two decades with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Nanz began his career with the FBI as a special agent in 2001, investigating white-collar crime cases at the Las Vegas Field Office. He later became a supervisory special agent in the Economic Crimes Unit at Headquarters, where he managed cases related to the 2008 financial crisis. Nanz also served as the FBI’s liaison to the Office of the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program and the President’s Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force.

In 2010, Nanz transferred to the Miami Field Office, where he supervised the corporate and securities fraud program and established the South Florida Insurance Fraud Task Force. He then completed assignments in London and Pretoria, South Africa, to support the FBI’s international corruption mission. In 2016, he became an assistant special agent in charge in the Los Angeles Field Office, overseeing 11 squads of special agents and forensic accountants.

Prior to joining the FBI, Nanz worked as a law clerk for the National Transportation Safety Board and as an attorney at an aviation law firm in New York. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from George Washington University and a law degree from George Mason University.

The Operational Technology Division focuses on developing and implementing technology solutions to enhance the FBI’s intelligence, national security, and law enforcement operations. As assistant director of this division, Nanz will be responsible for leading teams that design and implement cutting-edge technology tools to help detect criminal activity and protect national security interests.
