Fayetteville-Manlius High School’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Club recently returned home with multiple awards after attending the New York Spring Leadership Conference. The club, established last year by student Alexis Forbes, aims to empower students interested in healthcare careers by promoting opportunities in the industry.
At the leadership conference held in Syracuse, F-M’s HOSA chapter faced tough competition from high schools across the state, including chapters from New York City and Buffalo. Students had been preparing for months to participate in various events related to healthcare such as emergency medical technician (EMT), CPR, first aid, public health, medical spelling, dental science, pharmacy science, sports medicine, forensic science, and cultural diversities in healthcare.
Despite the stiff competition, Fayetteville-Manlius students shone at the conference. They took home nine gold medals, six silver medals, three bronze medals and other accolades. Three students – Stella Affeldt, Sureeta Das and Sanaa Goyal – earned the opportunity to compete at the national level at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Texas this June. They will represent FM and compete against students from all fifty states and countries like China
