The world has lost a beloved furry friend as Kabosu, the famous dog behind the popular “doge” memes, passed away at the age of 18. Her owner, Atsuko Sato, a kindergarten teacher in Sakura, Japan, announced her death in a blog post. According to Sato, Kabosu peacefully passed away while surrounded by the sounds of birds on a beautiful morning.

Kabosu’s impact on the world was immeasurable, and her memory will live on through countless memes that feature her face in various scenarios. In 2010, a photo of Kabosu with folded paws and a curious expression went viral online and sparked the creation of countless “doge” memes. This led to the rise in popularity of Dogecoin, an alternative cryptocurrency that gained a following due to its connection to Kabosu and other meme tokens.

Dogecoin has gained attention from high-profile individuals like Elon Musk who conducted polls on Twitter regarding its acceptance as payment for Tesla. The demand for Dogecoin increased significantly at one point, causing disruptions in cryptocurrency trading on platforms like Robinhood.

Kabosu may no longer be with us physically but her legacy will continue to live on through her owner’s Instagram post where she shared that Kabosu had been battling leukemia and liver disease before passing away peacefully. A farewell gathering is being planned to honor Kabosu’s memory and legacy.
