Furniture Warehouse, a staple in Manhattan’s business community for 41 years, is set to close its doors for good. The second-generation owner of the store, Steve Williams, announced that the decision to shutter the business was part of a long-term strategy for eventual retirement. After 12 years of working on a 10-year plan, Williams and his wife are ready to enjoy their golden years by traveling and exploring new places outside of Manhattan.

The furniture store began selling off its remaining inventory on June 6 with a “quitting business sale” that will last approximately 90 days. Williams started the business with his father in 1983 and has been at the helm ever since. On the first day of the everything-must-go sale, Williams expressed gratitude to the community for their support and reflected on the end of his business journey.

Speaking to customers who came in to give their well wishes, Williams admitted that he would miss being in the retail business but was excited about what lay ahead. He mentioned getting an RV to travel extensively and create a bucket list of destinations he had only heard about before. With Furniture Warehouse closing down, Steve and his wife are looking forward to creating new memories and experiencing new adventures together.

Furniture Warehouse will have modified hours during this time, open Thursday through Monday with Tuesdays and Wednesdays reserved for moving stock from the warehouse to the showroom. Customers can take advantage of this opportunity to purchase discounted items from the store’s remaining inventory before it closes down permanently.

As Steve Williams reflects on his time running Furniture Warehouse, he knows that it is time for him to move on and pursue other interests. He has spent most of his adult life dedicated to running this family business and is now eager to embark on new adventures with his wife by his side.
