A family living in Buenos Aires faced an increase in expenses last month, with a budget of $1,249,313 needed to cover all costs. The survey by the Consumer Education, Services, and Advice Center (CESyAC) showed a sharp increase from $388,263.49 for the same month the previous year.

The survey included common expenses such as food baskets, housing rental, car payments, medicine fees for two children and club subscriptions. Of the total amount, most was allocated towards basic home services while the rest was spent on mass consumption products.

Inflation in Buenos Aires was 4.4% in May and accumulated to 80.2% for the year. Despite a decline in inflation rates after January’s peak due to devaluation, families have experienced significant income deterioration after December due to inflation’s impact on their income levels. Income fell on average by 67 points year-on-year compared to inflation during the first quarter of this year.
