Schoeneman’s Building Materials Center, a family-owned business established in 1888, is now part of Builders FirstSource, a publicly traded company with over 600 distribution and manufacturing locations. This move is strategic as Schoeneman’s anticipates an increase in housing demand and wants to be prepared for the future of the supply chain. The acquisition will allow the company to access more materials and advanced technology that will shape the building industry in the coming years. Despite the change, the name Schoeneman’s will remain, and employees who were owners will benefit from the sale as well.

In another development, a historic former grocery store at 9th and Grange is being transformed into a new breakfast and lunch spot called Perch. The owner of the building, attorney Alex Halbach, has already moved his law firm into the second floor of the building. Perch, which will seat 26 people inside, is expected to open in the coming weeks. Additionally, a patio with 50 seats and a future rooftop patio with around 40 seats will be added. Once complete, Perch will offer a cozy dining experience for customers to enjoy their meals throughout the day. Stay tuned to SiouxFalls.Business for more updates on local business developments.
