West Sacramento’s Sutter Health Park held its gates open for the 11th annual Fourth on the Field celebration on Thursday evening. Many people came early to secure their spot on the field and in the stadium to witness the spectacular fireworks show. Holli Wood and her children were among those who arrived early to reserve a shaded spot on the field.

Before the fireworks began, attendees enjoyed live music by Sacramento’s Dunsbar Road, shopped at local vendors, and sampled food from the food trucks parked in the outfield. To beat the summer heat, Dinger’s splash pad, cooling tents, and cold treat stops were also available at the ballpark. Val Gomez, attending for the first time, expressed his gratitude for having an opportunity to celebrate Independence Day with his family and pay tribute to service members.

Across the street from Sutter Health Park, Drake’s at The Barn also hosted a watch party for the fireworks as the City of Sacramento did not have a display due to COVID-19 restrictions. The West Sacramento display on the riverfront has become a beloved family tradition for many in recent years. These celebrations allow families to come together and honor freedom while spending quality time with loved ones.

“It’s about just being able to spend time with family,” said Holli Wood, “And our freedom.”
